BHOOMI 2026
Every year, Navdanya organizes the annual Bhoomi (Earth) Festival to celebrate the rights of Mother Earth and Earth Democracy. Farmers, educators, and students from India and around the globe traditionally convene at the India International Centre (IIC) in Delhi, India, and often conclude at the Navdanya farm in Dehradun. The Navdanya annual celebration is a fall cornerstone for the organization, where farmers, educators, and students from across India and the globe gather to honor women farmers, regenerative agriculture, indigenous knowledge, and global ecological justice issues like climate change and seed sovereignty. Alongside the United Nations declaration that 2026 be The Year of the Women Farmer, this year’s Bhoomi theme is “Women Regenerating the Earth, Renewing Humanity.” Please join us

GANDHI AND SWADESHI: ON ECONOMIC FREEDOM & SELF-RELIANCE
This year’s theme will be Swadeshi- a Gandhian concept defined as the spirit that makes us use and serve our local surroundings and neighbors first, before reaching for things far away. It means total self-reliance in economic, social, and cultural life. Together, we will learn how Swadeshi can be utilized for economic freedom of the self, the economies of life, and all living beings. This course will be led by Dr Vandana Shiva, where she will be teaching on the shared relationships of women, farming, livelihood, health, and agriculture. Prof. Apoorvanand Jha from the University of Delhi will be leading a participatory session on our expectations from Gandhi, and how we can understand and utilize this in our own lives for the betterment of the interconnectedness of living with all beings.
